Whats the difference?
The programmatic estimate is calculated against all views for that post — every visitor counts toward the RPM calculation regardless of whether they actually saw the ad slot.
The direct estimate is more conservative — it’s calculated against slot views only, meaning only the visitors who actually scrolled far enough to see that specific slot position. So if 40% of visitors bounce before reaching the in-content zone, the direct estimate only counts the 60% who actually saw it.
In short:
- Programmatic = total post views × RPM — optimistic, assumes full fill rate
- Direct = slot views × RPM — realistic, only counts visitors who actually reached that slot
The direct number is the more honest one. If you’re selling that slot to an advertiser directly, Direct will be closer to what they’d actually get in front of eyeballs. The Programmatic would only be achievable if every single visitor to the post saw the ad, which rarely happens for in-content slots.
